How to say days of the week and months in Russian

It’s so obvious, that for every learner of Russian language it is necessary to know the part of vocabulary that includes days of the week, months and all other related words that we usually use to describe the time. 

Let’s say you want to tell someone that you will arrive on Monday (Понедельник) or your exam is scheduled at the end of February (nominative: февраль).  How would you say it in Russian? How to say days of the week in Russian?

The first day of the week in Russia starts with Monday and ends with Sunday. There are also Saturday and Sunday as weekends where Sunday is the main weekend and Saturday is floating day. From time to time, Saturday can be a workday, it depends on the holidays and how they impact the calendar year.

You also need to pay attention that days of the week in Russian should not be capitalized unless you have it at the beginning of the sentence. Use the audio assistant in the table to check the correct pronunciation.

Now let’s see how we can use days of the week in the sentence. In English we use only the proposition “on” – “на” for days of the week and never use “in” – “в”. Keep in mind, that for the days of the week in Russian we use the proposition “in” – “в” (“в понедельник” – “on Monday”). 

And pay attention to the endings of the days when they are used with prepositions. You should keep in mind that those days of the week have a endings that is followed by rules of specific case of Russian language. Just as an example, we used the preposition “in (on)”. After this preposition we use Prepositional case for each day of the week.

How to say months of the year in Russian?

You need to pay attention on the declination of the months when using it with prepositions. Just like with days of the week we should decline the months accordingly to the rules of the case in which sentence is used. To make an example, we used preposition “in (on)”. After this preposition we use Prepositional case declination.
